1997
How girls homeschool basketball started in Indianapolis
In the fall of 1997, Doug Thornton and Ron VanDeusen started the first girl's homeschool basketball team in Indianapolis. They both had homeschool daughters and coached in the Castleview Baptist Girls Basketball League. After 8th grade, there were no girls basketball programs for homeschool athletes so they started the Indianapolis Trailblazers. They started with six freshmen and two sophomores and practiced at Castleview Baptist Church. The team mainly played small Christian Schools and a few homeschool teams. Since then, the team has grown and won many State Championships, Regional Championships, and Gold Ball National Championships.
