The Beginning of Indy Genesis Baseball

Phil Smith had two boys, Keyton and Mehki, who played baseball growing up. Phil coached his boys for many years and wanted to continue homeschooling and have them still play baseball. Phil also had a desire to provide an environment to help boys grow spiritually. Phil approached Matt Hogan, President of Indy Genesis, about starting a baseball team. The Genesis board supported Phil’s proposal and started a baseball team. The first year was a great success with a team of 14 players who competed in 18 games against public, private, and homeschool teams. This was the beginning of homeschool baseball with Indy Genesis.
