Track Frequently Asked Questions

Track FAQ

Q: When is track's season?

A: Track's season is only in the spring.

Q: Where and when do you practice?

A: January may include a meeting place that varies on the southside for distance runners every so often. February, we meet indoors if we can find a location on Monday’s, Tuesday’s, and Thursday’s starting at 6 pm. In 2021, we use Grace Church in Camby and the Armory in Franklin. In March, we start outdoors at Clark Pleasant Middle School at 6 pm.

Q: Where and when are meets held?

A: Any day of the week except Sunday starting in March and at various schools mainly around the Indianapolis area with some as far as Fort Wayne and our National meet in Missouri.

Q: Is there a uniform?

A: Yes. It is provided to athletes and must be turned in at the end of the season.

Q: What age groups can participate?

A: Elementary ages: 1st grade to 5th grade (there only a couple of meets for 1st through 3rd grade), Middle School 6th – 8th grade with 5th typically allowed and sometimes 4th, and High School 9th – 12th grade.

Q: Does my child need previous track experience?

A: No. While Indy Genesis is a competitive track program, no previous track experience is required.

Q: Do teams travel?

A: Yes. Every meet involves some travel. We only have 1 home meet at Clark Pleasant Middle School.

Q: How do I register?

A: Please use our registration page, which can be found here.

Q: Are all Indy Genesis track athletes homeschooled?

A: Yes. Indy Genesis is a homeschool sports organization. To be considered eligible by Indy Genesis, the parent must direct the education of their child at least 51% of the time.

This definition does not preclude parents paying for private educational services as a supplement to their child’s education but it does exclude any government funding for educational services provided to the child.

Indy Genesis is able to grant exceptions to this policy if a child is enrolled in a private school which does not offer a sport provided by Indy Genesis. In this case, however, there must be no government funding involved in the provision of the child’s education.

Q: Are refunds provided?

A: Yes. Automatic refunds are available up until the day of the first meet of the season. Refunds after the first meet are decided on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Do you provide insurance?

A: Yes. In the rare case of an injury to an athlete, all Indy Genesis athletes have access to insurance provided by Indy Genesis.
